Woven Welcome: Governor's Fishing Opener
This project is brought to us by the Nemeth Art Center, and will be facilitated by artists Jill Odegaard, Sandy Sampson, and Anne Greenwood. Together, area residents will weave a giant welcome mat which will be displayed down the middle of Main Avenue during the Governor's Fishing Opener in May.
Looms, textiles for weaving, and instruction will all be provided at the library on Saturday, February 16 between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Each participant will weave a rectangle. During the weekend of the GFO, all the rectangles will be sewn together to form one giant textile art piece. Participants will be able to sign their rectangles and a list of all participants will be on display during the GFO. The list will also be printed in a book about the project which will be available for purchase. The project, which will be documented by Lakeland Television in an hour long special to be aired statewide, is designed to bring all of Park Rapids together in one effort to show what makes this community special.
No prior experience with weaving or textile arts is necessary, and all materials and tools will be provided. This is a wonderful opportunity to show our community pride. Let's put our hands together to welcome the Governor.
